A carton making machine for continuous production of taper-sided cartons (38) from a blank. Fig. 1. includes first, second and third folding means provided by surfaces (24, 25, 27) and a blade (28) of a nylon cam block (23), Fig. 4 in a short-length concertina folding apparatus, or blades and ploughs (30, 31, 32, 33) Figs. 6, 7, in a high-speed apparatus. Hot melt gluing (39) Fig. 10, and pressure-rollers (40) secure a top closure flap (14), compressing the concertina side regions (15, 16) at the top of the carton to form tapered sides. The folding means forms concertina folds in the blank by folding about parallel fold lines 18-20 in opposite directions with the folding means acting on alternate faces of the blank. <IMAGE> |
