PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composite material excellent in processability and mechanical stability and useful for sporting goods, aircraft parts, architectural materials, etc., by using a silicon carbide-based fiber having a high modulus and a high elongation as a reinforcing material and an aromatic polyamide resin as a matrix. CONSTITUTION:A silicone polymer compound fiber having silicon-carbon bonds and silicon-silicon bonds as the main skeleton components is infusibilized and calcined preferably in a non-oxygen atmosphere to obtain a silicon carbide-based fiber having >=15T/mm<2> tensile modulus and >=1.8% elongation. The resultant silicon carbide-based fiber is used as a reinforcing material and a wholly aromatic polyamide resin (e.g. polymetaphenylene isophthalamide) is used as a matrix, thus obtaining the objective composite material. |
