The hinge bearing is for a car-door check strap, having a bracket (10) on the pillar with two parallel arms (13,14) containing bores (15,16) in line. Between these the strap (19) fits, containing a bore (21) accommodating a bush (22), through which a screwed bolt (26) passes, engaging with a self-locking nut (27). Ramp faces (17,18) on the arms work against the bush end faces (24,25), any free movement being taken up by tightening the nut.
