The method includes, after dilatation of the lower part (4) of the circular cylindrical tube (1) to larger dia. by use of widening prongs (3), inserting tungsten electrodes (9) at the ends of inner current conductors (8) of the same material, supported by Mo packing foils (7) and tungsten outer current conductors (6). The foils (7) are arranged parallel to each other in the same plane within the widened part (10) of the tube. The space between the outer current conductors (6) is greater than both the inner dia. of the cylinder (1) and the outer dia. of the discharge space (11). The desired gas filling is introduced into this space, and the pumping tube (2) is then disconnected leaving a pip (12).
