A device in the form of a ferrous sheet metal jacket for protecting plastic cards such as bank cards, credit cards and security cards which have a magnetically coded information strip on the back of the card. When a card is properly inserted into the jacket, it protects the card from physical damage and shields the magnetically coded information strip on the back of the card from extraneous magnetic fields. The jacket comprises resiliently flexible ferrous sheet metal device with a back body and front body. The front body is a lip that is folded over from the upper back body to the thickness of a card. The back body has vertical tabs on the sides and bottom. The upper portion of the back body is offset outward and on a plane parallel to the back body. The jacket holds a card in a manner that the magnetic strip on the back of the card is positioned away from the offset portion of the back body of the jacket. There is a cutout on the bottom of the card holder for convenient insertion and removal of the card and cut outs in non-critical body areas to reduce weight.
