PURPOSE: To provide an oxidizing adsorbent which can efficiently remove NO at a normal temperature using a device of a compact construction by employing γ-MnO2- X having a predetermined specific surface area as a principal component of the adsorbent, in the oxidizing adsorbent for oxidizing and adsorbing NO in an exhaust gas of an automobile in a tunnel of an expressway or parking space. CONSTITUTION: An oxidizing adsorbent for efficiently removing a nitrogen oxide NO contained in the atmosphere or various flue exhaust gas comprises γ-MnO2- X having a specific surface area of at least 100m<2> /g, as its principal component. Such component adsorbs, using a compact device, about 25% of NO at a normal temperature and efficiently oxidizes about 75% of NO to convert the NO into NO2 , and further the converted NO2 can be adsorbed on a NO2 adsorbent such as active carbon. And MnO2 is prepared by oxidizing a precursor of γ-MnO2 such as manganese hydroxide by an electrolysis process, and in order to manufacture the γ-MnO2- X having a specific surface area of 100m<2> /g, MnCO3 is fired at a temperature of 250-450 deg.C and oxidized. |
