PURPOSE:To prevent a speed change shock by releasing a lockup clutch at a point of time filled up a prescribed condition after an upshift signal output, in the case of a lockup clutch engagement and a downshift detection from a speed change step before the upshift signal output to a high speed step. CONSTITUTION:When an upshift signal is outputted in the engaging status of a lockup clutch 2 with a fluid type transmission mechanism 1, it is controlled so as to release backward the output and the judgement of a downshift during a delay control is detected by a downshift detection means 5. If a speed change step to be set by the downshift is a higher step than the speed change step before the judgement of an upshift, a lockup clutch release control means 6 releases the lockup clutch 2 by filling up a prescribed condition during a delay control. An engine blowup and a speed change shock can be prevented due to the continuation of the delay control without the control of a lockup clutch immediate release based on the downshift judgement. |
