High temp. disposal of solid waste and industrial waste contg. (in)organic components comprises (a) preparing a cylindrical, vertical shaft furnace (1) contg. a drying zone in the upper region, a thermal decomposition zone in the middle region, and a combustion and melting zone in the lower region; (b) feeding the waste and non-combustible components together with solid fuels contg. carbon, and limestone in a double shed system; (c) feeding an air stream heated to above 1000 deg C into the combustion and melting zone; (d) thermally decomposing the organic components of the waste in the decomposition zone into brown coal and gaseous products by directly contacting with hot combustion gases produced in the combustion and melting zone; (e) combusting the brown coal and carbons of the solid fuel with the hot air stream to produce hot gaseous products, predominantly CO and H2 so that sufficient heat develops having enough high thermal energy to melt and liquefy the inorganic components of the waste; (f) purging the gaseous products contg. at least 50% CO and H2; (g) purifying the gaseous products, which are withdrawn from the drying zone of the furnace, by drying and wet scrubbing; (h) purging the molten products from the combustion and melting zone; and (i) combusting the predominant part of the gaseous products after purifying a power unit to produce heat and electrical stream and combusting the residue of the gaseous products in a regenerative air preheater to heat the air stream.
