<p>An apparatus for performing switchover in a network switch (10) having first and second switch fabrics (16a, 16b) from one of the switch fabrics to the other, while avoiding cell loss during the switchover. One of the switch fabrics (16a, 16b) is active while the other is in a stand-by mode. Switchover occurs immediately following detection of conditions indicating that the active switch fabric (16a) has fully drained, or following a timeout which assures full drainage of the active switch fabric (16a) under worst case conditions.</p> |
