The assembly to thicken sludge has scrapers (R1-R8) at the permeable base (26) of the receiving vessel (20) for the sludge to be thickened. A ramp (D3) to prevent sticking matter is offset at one scraper (R3), to direct a clearing jet of liquid towards the permeable base.
