The seat back has a tilt-adjustable headrest (3) with a pivot point (4) extending below and parallel to the pivot point (20) of the headrest padding. An impact plate, (8) which bears the body of the seat's occupant, is located below the pivot point of the headrest and interacts with the headrest padding by a linkage (13-15) which has a pivot point (21) lying coaxial with the pivot point of the headrest in normal driving conditions. The impact plate is mounted on the seat back frame, with a degree of freedom, by means of a gear mechanism, and possible movement of the impact face under normal conditions is prevented by an elastic element.
