The installation has positioning planes (2-5), in each of which are adjacent positioning places (7) arranged in a row. The number of platforms (6) located in a positioning plane is always less by one than the number of positioning places, i.e. there is always one free place over. In a cavity (8) beneath the lowermost positioning plane (5), is a lift device (9), which can move crossways and be driven under one of the positioning places of the positioning planes above. The width of the cavity is such that the lift device can only be driven beneath the central positioning places. In each positioning plane at the edge of the row of positioning places is one place under which the lift device cannot be driven.
