The motor vehicle backrest (1) angle adjuster (4) has a handwheel (3) with inner teeth (3a) which engage with meshing teeth (4a) on the height adjuster (4). The rotary axis of the adjuster shaft is offset from the axis of the hand wheel in the direction of rotation. The handwheel axis can be raised with respect to the adjuster axis.
