PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the automatic phase adjusting device which automatically adjust the phase of a synchronous detection signal for synchronous detection by an electromagnetic induction type position detector such as an inductosyn. SOLUTION: The electromagnetic induction type position detector such as an inductosyn while exciting a scale part 1 with an excitation signal having a constant amplitude generates a phase shift signal S2 by shifting a reference signal S1 for synchronous detection by a certain quantity at each time, performs the synchronous detection of a feedback signal S3 by using the phase shift signal S2 having each shift quantity as a synchronous detection signal, and integrates the resulting feedback signal S4 after the synchronous detection by one cycle and detects the shift quantity which maximizes the integral value to shift the reference signal S1 by the shift quantity.
