PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent production of a false signal resulting from dispersion in the sensitivity of each component of a color filter. SOLUTION: Multiplier circuits 23a-23c multiplies two of complementary color data C[Ye], C[Mg], C[Cy] to calculate products P[r], P[g], P[b], and substrate circuits 25a, 25b calculate a difference S[r] between the products P[r], P[g] and a difference, S[b] between the products P[g], P[b]. Absolute value circuits 26a, 26b, root extraction circuits 27a, 27b and signal addition circuit 28a, 28b produce roots R2[r], R2[b] of the differences S[r], S[b]. A color difference matrix circuit 29 synthesizes the roots R2[r], R2[b] to generate color difference data U, V.
