PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a digital camera to photograph an object without causing out of pixel focus even when the camera photographs the object while panning the digital camera. SOLUTION: When a panning key 12 is depressed, a switch circuit 14 is closed and a vertical synchronizing signal extracted from a video signal is fed to integration circuits 15X, 15Y as a reset signal. An angular velocity in longitudinal and lateral detections detected by an angular velocity sensors 9X, 9Y is fed to a system controller 10. The integration circuits 15X, 15Y integrate the received angular velocities in the longitudinal and lateral detections to obtain a moving amount in the longitudinal and lateral detections. An optical axis variable element in a lens group 1 is driven by changing the direction of the optical axis in response to the obtained moving amount in the longitudinal and lateral detections.
