At least one groove (13) is provided in the adaptor surface (12) of the hopper (5), in which a hollow elastic seal (14) is located. The seal cavity (15) is connected to a first controllable gas system (20) for controlling the pressure inside the cavity and the temperature of the gas flowing through it. A filling system for a shaft oven, especially a blast furnace, comprises two cone-shaped bell jars (6) which are vertically movable and positioned one above the other, two hoppers with an adaptor surface in their bottom side, and a system for moving each of the bell jars towards and away from the adaptor surface. At least one groove is provided in the adaptor surface, in which a hollow elastic seal is located. The seal cavity is connected to a first controllable gas system via an inlet (18) and outlet (19), used to control the pressure inside the cavity and the temperature of the gas flowing through it.
