Following conventional pretreatments, the cloth is made up into strips of set length. Regular- or irregular intervals of its length or width are determined. At each of the zones so defined, the cloth is bound by a tie (2). The strip so prepared, is soaked in a bath of dye, which impregnates it, except in the tied zones. The ties are released, revealing the geometrical shapes. Preferred features: The length of the strip of cloth is reduced by forming a series of transverse concertina-like folds (1a). Following tying, dyeing and release, lines are obtained, orientated along the length of the cloth. Along the length of the strip, at regular- or random intervals, creased- or screwed-up locations are formed, resulting in projections, as a result of localized circular gathering of the cloth. The projections are tied-off at their bases, dyed and released, producing geometric shapes with a loosely-circular shape.
