PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel injection control accuracy during the transient operation of an engine with a variable valve timing mechanism. SOLUTION: A deviation between a valve timing VTCNOW for an inlet valve and a target valve timing VTCNOW is calculated (S21, S22) and a transient correction coefficient Kvtc for delayed response to valve timing control is calculated in accordance with the deviation, namely, a shift of an actual valve overlap amount from a target valve overlap amount (S23). A transient correction amount for a fuel injection amount is corrected, accordingly.
