<p>The method and apparatus for unwinding wound strip from the outside of the cylindrical spool for feeding a helically moving pipe winding machine. The apparatus comprises a support structure (20); a frame (32) mounted to the support structure (20) for rotation about a substantially vertical axis; an axle (27) supported by the frame (32) for rotatably supporting the spool (15) for rotation about a substantially horizontal axis; and a primary strip guide mounted to the frame (32) below the axe (27), wherein the apparatus is arranged and constructed to guide the strip through the primary strip guide while allowing simultaneous rotation of the spool (15) about both horizontal and vertical axis. The apparatus and method allows strip to be delivered to a winding machine in a twisted condition.</p> |
