PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized surface acoustic wave resonator using a substrate having a smaller reflection coefficientγof a surface acoustic wave per electrode that has a low CI value and a small parallel capacitance C0 and can efficiently be driven. SOLUTION: In the surface acoustic wave resonator comprising one interdigital electrode for stimulating the surface acoustic wave in a propagation direction X on a piezoelectric flat plate and a pair of reflectors deposited at both sides of the interdigital electrode in the propagation direction, the interdigital electrode is divided into three regions, and electrode fingers of the interdigital electrode in each region are formed to have a fixed cyclic length which is variable within 2%. The surface acoustic wave resonator having single peak characteristics is characterized in that thinning weighting nearly proportional to a vibratory displacement function U(X) is applied to the interdigital electrode divided into the three regions.
