PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To nicely miniaturize while preventing staining or vibration of a positioning marker member such as an encoder strip or the like, in an ink jet printer wherein ink is supplied to a head from an ink retaining unit, provided separately from the head, through a tube. SOLUTION: The tube 15 for supplying ink from the ink retaining unit to the head 7 is projected from the side surface of the head 7. On the other hand, the encoder strip 31 is extended along the moving direction of the head 7 while the position of the head 7 is detected by detecting the same through a photo- sensor 33 provided on the head 7. The supporting members 40 of the encoder strip 31 supports the encoder strip 31 from the side of the head 7 through a slit 41a while the slit 41a is formed so as to have a width capable of preventing contact of the tube 15 with the encoder strip 31 and permitting the detection of the position through the photo-sensor 33. |
