PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a boring insect pest and preventing spread thereof, capable of being easily carried out, without causing an adverse effect on the environment, nor requiring time and effort relatively, and to provide a polymer preparation suitable for the method. SOLUTION: This method for preventing invasion of the boring insect pest into the inside of a tree from the outside, propagation thereof inside the tree, and the spread of an emerged adult of the boring insect pest to the surroundings, wherein a surface of the tree is covered with a polymer film, by applying an aqueous solution, dispersion, or emulsion containing a cold film-forming polymer compound which forms the polymer film by film formation at ordinary temperature to all or a part of the surface of the tree. The cold film-forming polymer compound preferably has a lowest film-forming temperature of≤25°C and a glass transition temperature of≤5°C, and further the polymer film obtained by subjecting the polymer compound to the film formation preferably has an elongation at break of≥150% under an environment of 25°C.
