A process for the preparation of substituted isocoumarins comprises internal molecular cyclization of ortho-substituted benzoic acid derivatives in interaction with non-saturated compounds. Anthranilic acids esters are used, sodium is diazotized with nitrite in the aqueous HBr, prepared bromides of 2-alkoxycarbonylbenzodiazonium are introduced to reaction with esters of bromopropenic acid in the aqueous acetone medium in the presence of CuBr, and substituted isocoumarins are prepared.
