PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a condensed ring compound which can be used for efficiently producing a condensed ring compound having excellent charge transportability and excellent solubility in a solvent. SOLUTION: The method for producing the condensed ring compound comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (1a) (wherein Ar<SP>11</SP>and Ar<SP>12</SP>are each independently a group of atoms constituting an aromatic ring or a heterocycle, and X<SP>11</SP>and X<SP>12</SP>are each independently hydrogen or a halogen and at least one of them is a halogen) with a compound represented by formula (1b) (wherein R<SP>11</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>are each hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an alkylamino group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group or a cyano group, provided that at least one of R<SP>11</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>is not hydrogen) in the presence of an amine and a metal complex catalyst.
