a) inoculating a culture medium in a fermenter with a microorganism capable of producing a compound of interest; b) adding a browned glucose solution to the culture medium, wherein the browned glucose solution is a glucose solution that has been acid treated and heated to a temperature of at least 90 degrees Celsius, and wherein the glucose solution has a concentration of at least 500 g/l; c) fermenting the microorganism to provide a fermentation broth; and d) recovering the compound of interest from the fermentation broth. |
