Provided in an embodiment of the present invention is an RCS (rich communication suite)-based group message processing method and device, the method comprising: receiving a group creation request sent by a first terminal, according to the group creation request, creating a group and obtaining a mapping relation corresponding to the group; carrying the mapping relation in an invitation message generated according to the group creation request and sending the invitation message to a second terminal to enable the second terminal to add the group corresponding to a group identity or group short message number in the mapping relation according to the invitation message; receiving an IM (instant message) and sending the IM to an IWF (interworking function) when the second terminal is determined to be in an offline state to enable the IWF to convert the IM to an SM (short message)according to the group identity in the IM, and sending the SM to the second terminal to enable the same to convert the SM to a corresponding IM according to the mapping relation and the group short message number in the SM. The RCS-based group message processing method and device provided in the embodiment of the present invention enable an association between the IM and the SM belonging to the same group.
