A cooling tower with a self-supported shell, and a cooling apparatus residing inside the shell. The shell includes a base section, a cap section and an annular wall residing between the base section and the cap section, the annular wall including a plurality of geometric bodies that are joined to one another and giving the shell a geodesic configuration.

1. A cooling tower, comprising:
a shell having a base section, a cap section, and an annular wall residing over the base section and below the cap section to support the cap section and to define an interior space, the annular wall including a plurality of geometric bodies joined to one another to define a structure in which the geometric bodies are oriented at an angle that is more than zero relative to a vertical plane, and the cap section including an air passage; and a cooling apparatus residing in the interior space.
