[Also in Division F2] A load-handling apparatus, e.g. for handling rolls of paper 190, includes a gripper attachment 12 which comprises opposed, relatively movable clamping arms 16, 18 mounted on a frame 14 which includes guide tubes 20 slidably mounting guide rods connected to the arms, the latter being moved by actuating rams 24. The attachment is connected to an elevatable carriage 25 and a rotator 26 consisting of a non- rotatable member 27 and power-operated means 28 for rotating a plate 30, and therefore the arms 16, 18 about a horizontal axis. A rotary connector 70 for the flow of hydraulic fluid from the reservoir 60 to the rams is interposed between the member 27 and plate 30. The arm 18, which is shorter than the arm 16, is first moved against the underside of the roll 190 after which both arms are brought together, substantially all contracting movement taking place in the arm 16.</p> |
