[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Filaments are formed from a copolyamide made by polymerizing a mixture of nylon salts obtained from p-xylylenediamine and two linear aliphatic C 6-13 α,#-dicarboxylic acids, one of which has 1 or 2 C-atoms more than the other. The amount of one acid is 10-90% moles of the total acid content of the mixture. Exemplified acids are all the acids HOOC(CH 2 ) 4-11 -COOH. Mole ratio of p-xylylenediamine : aliphatic dicarboxylic acids may be unity. The polymerization may be performed below 300‹ C.; water and a viscosity control agent e.g. 0À2% benzoic acid may be present. The fibres or filaments may be melt-spun at e.g. 260-300‹ C. followed by cold-drawing or hot-drawing, e.g. at 90‹ C.-100‹ C. after which a constant-length or relaxed heat-treatment at e.g. 180‹ C. may be performed. A hot pin at 70‹ C. and a hot plate at 150‹ C. may be employed. Glass transition temperatures are 70-120‹ C.; wet-state glass transition temps. are 40‹ C. to 60‹ C. |
