A 2-hydroxy-1,1,2,3,3-pentahydroperfluoroalkyl derivative of either one of the formulae: [RfCH2CH(OH)CH2OOC]mQ and Q'(NR1R2)m' WHEREIN Rf is a perfluoroalkyl, an omega -hydro-perfluoroalkyl or an omega -chloro-perfluoroalkyl group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, Q is a hydrocarbon residue having a valency corresponding to m which may contain one or more of -O-, -COO- and -OH in and/or on the chain, Q' is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having a valency corresponding to m' which may contain one or more of -O-, -COO-, -NH-, -N= and IN THE CHAIN, R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom or a group of the formula: -CH2CH(OH)CH2Rf, at least one of R1 and R2 being -CH2CH(OH)CH2Rf, m is an integer of not less than 2 and m' is an integer of not less than 1, which is useful as an oil-repellent agent or an anti-soiling agent for fibrous materials.
