1306291 Halohydrins SCHERING AG 9 March 1970 [7 March 1969] 11140/70 Heading C2U Epoxides, particularly steroid epoxides, are split by the action of LiCl or LiBr in the presence of an organic acid, particularly an aliphatic carboxylic acid, to give halohydrins. Suitable reaction temperatures are from 0-50‹ C., conveniently room temperature. Novel products are 6α-chloro or bromo-7#-hydroxy-17α-acyloxy - 1α,2α - methylene - #<SP>4</SP>- pregnene - 3,20- diones. The novel steroids are stated to be highly active gestagens, and they may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions and used as contraceptive agents or in the treatment of gynaecological conditions. |
