1300633 Blending polymers CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 28 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 25676/70 Heading C3P First high molecular weight elastomeric and/ or thermoplastic substances in the form of coarse lumps are homogenized with second high molecular weight elastomeric and/or thermoplastic substances in the form of fine grains in a mixer having a high speed mixing tool, the temperature being raised to at least the softening point of said first substances, in the presence of sufficient powdered adsorbent to take up visco-elastic and/or viscous high molecular weight substances formed from said first substances. Specified lumpy materials are ethylene/ propylene copolymer and terpolymer rubbers, styrene/butadiene rubbers, atactic polybutene, polyisobutylene, silicone rubbers, plasticized polyvinyl chloride and ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer rubbers. Specified fine materials are polyolefins and polyvinyl chloride. The adsorbent may be carbon black, silicic acid, kaolin, talc, bentonite and chalk. Other liquid or powdered additives, e.g. pigments, stabilizers, lubricants, fillers and plasticizers, may also be incorporated. The high molecular weight substances and adsorbent may be mixed simultaneously, or the lumpy material may be premixed with the adsorbent. In examples mixtures comprising (1) atactic polybutene, isotactic polybutene, acetylene black and n-octadecyl (3,5- di-t.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate and (2) ethylene/propylene terpolymer rubber, polyethylene, acetylene black, n-octadecyl (3,5- di-t.-butyl-4-hydroxphenyl) propionate and sulphur are blended in high speed mixers. |
