The adjustment mechanism has a lever (11) that pivots on the same fixed axis (2) as the pedal (1). The lever is connected on one hand to the linkage (10) that transmits movement of the pedal and on the other hand to the pedal itself. The connection to the pedal is via a threaded manual adjuster (13) that allows adjustment of the position of the angle between the pedal and the lever. The adjuster is held in the set position by a lock (14). The pedal and the lever are each formed principally by a plate (15,16) perpendicular to the fixed axis (2) supporting the pedal. The two plates are approximately adjacent, and the threaded adjuster extends into the plane separating the two plates. The adjuster is carried by a folded part of the plate forming part of the pedal.
