1,167,255. Fluid regulation. BENDIX CORP. Nov. 28, 1967 [Dec. 27, 1966], No. 54094/67. Heading G3H. A fluid-pressure duct 28, Fig. 1, is shaped to provide a controlled pressure drop along its length so that an orifice 31 in an axially movable tube 30 receives a pressure corresponding to the position of the orifice in the duct. This pressure can be used either as a position sensor, e.g. to monitor the position of a workpiece, or as a variable pressure source. In a modification, Fig. 3, a pair of curved ducts 46, 48 located between inlet 42 and outlet 44 co-operate with a pair of orifices 52, 54 the effective positions of which can be varied by relative movement of eccentric members 40, 50. The Specification sets out equations for determining optimum dimensions of the duct to ensure a controlled pressure drop for flows corresponding to Reynolds numbers as high as one million. |
