Signatures 2 are separated from a magazine 1 by a suction device 6 and withdrawn by a drum 8, having grippers 10, which transports the signatures via transport rollers 12 up to a stop 14. From this position the trailing edges of the signature are gripped by suction rollers 16 and 17 which operate to open the signature and transfer it to clamps 26 which deposit the opened signature on saddle 22. The clamps may be secured to endless chains or belts 25 running over rollers 23, 24 and operated by cams 27. A finger, 20, Fig. 4, serves to guide the traling ends 15 of the signature between the suction rollers 16 and 17. Guides 11 and 13 are provided adjacent the periphery of drum 8 which may comprise a series of co-axial discs (7, Fig. 2, not shown).</p> |
