PRODUCTION OF 3-METHYLTETRAHYDROFURAN

PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing 3-methyltetrahydrofuran in high yield from a raw material mass-produced at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing 3-methyltetrahydrofuran comprises the first step of producing methyl 3-cyanoisobutyrate from prussic acid and methyl methacrylate, the second step of reacting the methyl-3-cyanoisobutyrate obtained in the first step with water and sulfuric acid, then reacting the resultant reactional product with an alcohol and forming a methylsuccinic acid ester and the third step of catalytically hydrogenating the methylsuccinic acid ester obtained in the second step and producing the 3-methyltetrahydrofuran.
