Zn-coated sheet, as used in bodywork mfr., are welded together in an arrangement in which the edge regions (3, 4) at least almost come into contact to form a pocket-shaped gap (8) along the path of a weld seam that is to be formed. The gap may be interrupted at predetermined intervals at which the parts are brought together by a spot weld.
