1,270,882. Disc brakes. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. 19 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 41429/69. Heading F2E. A disc brake assembly comprises a brake ring 11 for mounting coaxially alongside a wheel 1, the ring having axially extending lugs 9 positioned approximately centrally between the inner and outer radial limits of the ring and formed with radially extending bores 15 which lugs project towards the wheel when the assembly is in use, an intermediate ring 6 for mounting on the wheel so that respective radially-extending arms 8 provided on the ring project towards the lugs 9 in a gap between the brake ring and the wheel. The arms are so formed and arranged that, when the assembly is in use, each of the arms has a lateral surface which is in engagement with the brake ring from that one of the radial limits which is nearer to the ring 6 substantially up to the lugs in a plane that is perpendicular to the axis of the brake ring. Connecting pins 14 adapted to fit respectively in the bores 15 and project therefrom into the arms when the assembly is in use so that one side of the brake ring can be acted upon to effect braking of the wheel. As shown, two brake rings, which have cooling webs 18, are secured to the wheel by bolts 5, and auxiliary pins 16 secure the pins 14 against displacement. In modifications, (a) the ring 6 is shrunk on to the hub 2 of the wheel, and (b) the ring 6 is disposed adjacent the wheel rim 4. |
