1,203,678. Glass manufacture. J. M. Y. LE CLERC DE BUSSY. 24 June, 1968 [7 July, 1967], No. 29991/68. Heading ClM. A device for producing small articles, e.g. pellets, from a continuous stream of glass OE comprises an endless conveyer 6 on which are mounted a series of open moulds 1, means for driving the conveyer 6 to bring each mould successively into vertical alignment with the orifice discharging the glass stream OE and a series of triangular shaped glass-stream separating bars 11 extending transversely relative to the direction of motion of the conveyer, the apex of each bar 11 lying in the plane of separation of, and above the rims of two adjacent moulds when the moulds are directed towards the pouring orifice. The apex of each bore 11 is preferably rounded. The bars may be made of steel or graphite. Glass in a stream at a temperature in the range 1500‹-1600‹ C. is fed successively to the mould 6 adjacent the upstream end of the upper reach of the conveyer. The correct quantity of glass fed to each mould is a function of the speed of the conveyer the stream being severed and diverted by the bar 11. The cooled pellets are discharged by the inversion of the mould as a transfer to the lower reach of the conveyer. Before being reused the moulds are cooled and, if desired, lubricated by spraying. Each mould, which comprises a cylindrical moulding cavity 2 and divergent walls 3, is screwed to a plate 4 mounted on a chain forming the conveyer. If desired, the moulds can be used to form a pre-form which is transferred whilst still plastic to a conventional press-moulding machine. |
