Multi-chamber tyres - with sidewall chamber walls sized for lay-flat lay-up and lined with butyl rubber

Tyres having a supplementary chamber, pref. inflated to a higher pressure against one or both sidewalls, where the meridian length of the partition wall of the side chamber is equal to the meridian length of the tyre sidewall between the tyre bead and the tread section. The partition walls may include plies extended from beneath the tread or from around the bead wires or independent of the carcass plies, e.g. as a prefabricated tube stuck onto the carcass wall. Esp. for mfg. radial ply tyres with pneumatically stiffened sidewalls, the sidewall partition dimensions are suitable for initial lay-up with the main carcass on a flat bed unit. Ply interfaces which must not adhere during lay-flat may be coated or covered with a layer of butyl rubber.
