Substd. aluminium and alkali metal hydrides are prepd. and isolated from their soln. by subjecting the solns. to lyophilisation or flash evaporation under reduced pressure. The hydrides obtained have excellent solubility in hydrocarbons without the reduction effect of the hydrides being reduced.
