A selector mechanism comprises a group of selectors and blades, each selector being movable to one or another position depending on the state of a corresponding element of a binary selecting signal, which may be electric or hydraulic for example, and the selectors or blades having arrangements of stops or notches so that when the selectors have been set up by the selecting signal only one of the blades can be moved. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, selectors 11a-11c are shown in positions corresponding to a selecting signal 011, the selectors being movable in the direction of arrows f. Blades 12a-12c (only three shown) have stops 13, each blade having a different combination of stops. The stops engage or do not engage the corresponding selectors 11 when a downward force is applied to the blades by pneumatic, hydraulic, or magnetic means, and only one blade will have no stop engaging the selectors for a particular secting signal. As shown, only blade 12c can be moved. The blades control for example an electric or hydraulic output. Each selector 11 may be formed with more than one aperture, each aperture containing several blades, Fig. 4 (not shown). The apertures in the selectors may be notched so that each selector is different, the blades then being identical and stops on the blades coacting with the notched apertures to allow selection of the blades, Fig. 5 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the selectors 11 are arcuate apertured plates 1, 2, 4, 8 on arms pivoted at 16. Arcuate blades 12 (only one shown) pass through the apertures and each blade has a different combination of stops which coact with the selectors, permitting the selection of one blade is response to a selecting signal. |
