PURPOSE: To shorten the time for translation by translating a character string in plural first languages having the same meaning into one unified second language. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with an input part 1 for inputting the character string in the first language, output part 4 for displaying out the character string in the second language translated corresponding to the inputted first language, and storage part 3 equipped with a dictionary memory composed of a data base composed of an intermediate language expression (the structure of meaning not depending on any language) decomposed into a subject, predicate and object at least consisting of the respective syntax of the character string in the plural first languages, and the character string in the second language translated respectively corresponding to these plural first languages, the character string in the plural first languages and the character string in the plural second languages. When the character string in the first language is inputted from the input part 1, the syntax of the inputted character string is analyzed and decomposed into the intermediate language expression. Then, a processing part 2 is provided to retrieve the character string in the second language from the storage part 3 while using a keyword based on the decomposed intermediate language expression. |
