<p>1344929 Safety device for water heaters ULGOR S C I 9 July 1971 [9 July 1970 11 March 1971] 32351/71 Heading F4T [Also in Division F2] A safety control device for a gas-fired water heater comprises a body defining two chambers 4 and 5 separated by a resilient diaphragm 3 whose movements control a gas supply valve for the heater through a rod 10, a Venturi duet 17 through which water supplied to the chamber 5 through an inlet port 32 passes, and a passage 18, 20, 21 whereby the upper chamber 4 undergoes suction when water passes through the throat of Venturi duct 17 but when the water supply fails the suction is removed and the diaphragm 3 falls to close the gas supply valve. Slow opening of the gas supply valve for ignition is provided by a projecting tongue 19 on the diaphragm. The temperature of the heater can be controlled by adjusting the flow of water in a channel which by-passes the throat of the Venturi duct, said channel having inlet and outlet ducts 25 and 29 and having its open upper surface closed by the diaphragm 3. A regulating device 33 in the water inlet 32 is controlled by the diaphragm to effect simultaneous regulation of the gas and water. The passage leading from the Venturi throat may contain a valve in place of the restriction 19, 20. The body of the device is in two parts 1, 2 each having a cast aluminium outer casing 6, 8 and a plastics inner protective element 7, 9.</p> |
