A scanning switch comprises a ball or roller contact 7, Fig. 1, moved under gravity between a pair of printed-circuit boards 3, 4 whereby one or more common contacts (not shown) on board 4 are successively connected to individual contacts 5 on board 3. In the example shown the roller 7 moves when the housing is tilted in opposite directions by the electromagnet 17 or by manual means. A similar rolling under gravity effect may be obtained by oscillating one of the boards 3, 4 about a vertical axis so that the ends move towards and away from one another. The housing 1 may be sealed and evacuated or filled with oil to dampen the movements. The housing may also be longitudinally arcuate whereby the speed of the ball is reduced towards each end of the track.</p> |
