<p>A batch of >=2 workpieces is subjected to surface treatment, where the workpieces are simultaneously transported for their successive immersion in a row of treatment tanks. The row contains tanks with >=2 different widths; and the gaps sepg. the workpieces from each other are varied to suit the widths of the tanks. The pref. plant consists of a row of tanks contg. specified treatment liqs. and located below a travelling portal or rolling bridge using suspension hooks or beams carrying a workpiece; the suspension beams are lowered for simultaneous immersion of the workpieces and then raised; and devices such as work cylinders are employed to adjust the gaps between the beams to suit the widths of the treatment tanks. The process is partic. suitable for anodising Al and its alloys. The workpieces can be near each other in some tanks, but their spacing must be increased e.g. when an electrode is to be located on each side of each workpiece. The process uses tanks with the min. width for each operation, thus saving valuable floor space and reducing the size of pumps etc. needed for each tank.</p> |
