Bulbs (3) are carried to the machine by a conveyor belt (9). Supple separation guides move back and forth across the end of the belt to guide the bulbs, one at a time, into parallel channels. Gates (15), operated via rollers (17,18) by pneumatic operating cylinders (16) guide batches of bulbs to transporter trays (20), so that they are all "root down". When the trays filled with compost pass below on a roller transporter (55) the bulbs are pressed into the compost in a row. The roller transporter which carries the trays of compost below the bulb transporter is accessed (6) from just below the bulb transporter inlet. |
