Sample enrichment for atomic absorption spectrometer - using carbon tube above crucible for secondary evaporation of sample

Enrichment of a particular component in a sample is achieved for use in atomic absorption spectrometers. It has the following steps, a) the sample is placed in a crucible and heated to a first temp at which the desired substance is volatile b) a graphite tube is held at a temp. below this c) an inert gas stream is passed through the crucible and then through the graphite tube, vapourised components being precipitated on the tube walls. The crucible is first heated to a temp. which is below the first but at which disturbing components are volatile. The graphite tube is then held at a temp which is greater than or equal to the specified third temp. Means of heating the crucible and the graphite tube are provided. For use with atomic absorption spectrometers whose certain components interface with measurements of the component required. The system overcomes this problem and allows sample enrichment.
