A line boring tool for boring precision holes through a workpiece. The tool comprises first and second mounting plates for attaching to the workpiece, a boring bar including cutters, first and second centering means for centering the boring bar within a pilot hole in the workpiece, first and second clamping means for holding the boring bar in position, rotating means for rotating the boring bar and drive means to move the boring bar longitudinally through the pilot hole. When the boring tool is positioned and aligned on a workpiece the rotation of the boring bar, together with the longitudinal movement of the boring bar by the drive means, causes the boring bar to enlarge the pilot hole to a pre-determined diameter. In a further embodiment, means to allow for orbital movement of an object, such as the boring bar, is disclosed. The means comprises a pair of floating rings received over a central housing and positioned between a pair of retaining rings. A clamping means is situated between the floating rings. The floating rings are spacially separated by the clamping means such that the central housing is capable of orbital movement relative to the clamping means.
